Artistic Statement

Creating a world and telling stories through characters and clothing is one of the most powerful tools available. Understanding characters and people is one of the most valuable skills a designer can develop. With my performance background, I’m able to translate empathy and emotional expression into my design work, helping me better understand characters and the worlds they live in. I’m especially interested in how textures, colors, and shapes within clothing communicate meaning both consciously and subconsciously. The two most interesting things to me are people and the things they wear. Costume design and technology give me a way to interpret the world and create new ones. When I look at the world around me as a creation, I’m inspired to create. Natural elements and everyday life guide me into understanding fantasy worlds and imagining new ideas. Sewing and working with fabrics give me the tools to communicate story and artistic expression. I strive to always be learning from the world around me, and design gives me a way to turn that curiosity into something tangible and meaningful.
